چکیده
Background: Empyema thoracis is a condition resulting in the accumulation of purulent fluid pleural cavity. It common source illness among young children and most sequela bacterial pneumonia. Aims Objectives: This study was to determine clinico-microbiological profile, causative agents, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns isolates population. Materials Methods: Prospective observational done Department Microbiology, S. C. B. M. H., Cuttack. The group comprised total 105 cases empyema between age 0–14 years, diagnosed by aspiration pus from space. Complete histories detail were noted. Results: A 41% patients 5–9 years with M: F ratio 1.1:1. Maximum 36 (34.3%) seen spring season. Fever, cough, breathlessness complaints. Bronchopneumonia 56 (53.3%), impetigo, skin lesions 29 (27.6%) major predisposing factors. Right-side 71 (67.6%) more than left side 34 (32.4%). Culture revealed Staphylococcus aureus as etiologic agent 26 (36.1%), which 30.8% methicillin-resistant aureus, followed Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex 13 (18.1%). Finally, 103 (98.2%) recovered antibiotics tube thoracostomy. Conclusion: prevalent lower socioeconomic population can be prevented an early diagnosis Effective methods treat include administration proper thoracostomy resource-poor settings.

Empyema thoracis in children: a short term outcome study.
This study prospectively evaluates clinical course of pyogenic empyema thoracis in 25 children (2 mo to 12 y) treated with injectable antibiotics and chest tube drainage, and followed for 6 weeks. The median (range) age at presentation was 3 y (4 mo to 11 y). The pleural fluid culture was positive in 24% of patients. Staphylococcus aureus was the most commonly isolated organism. The median (ran...
متن کامل[Treatment of empyema thoracis in children].
Empyema, an accumulation of infected fluid in the thoracic cavity, is commonly secondary to bacterial pneumonia in children. Despite the high prevalence and availability of many medical treatment options, there is no general consensus on the optimal management approach, which would lead to full and rapid recovery. Especially, there are the big differences in treatment options for the child with...
متن کاملEmpyema thoracis: Surgical management in children
Empyema thoracis can produce significant morbidity in children if inadequately treated. Correct evaluation of the stage of the disease, the clinical condition of the child and proper assessment of the response to conservative treatment is crucial in deciding the mode of further surgical intervention. This ranges from intercostal chest tube drainage and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery to op...

The infection with HIV remains a leading cause of death in persons 25 to 44 years of age in the United State, as in developing countries, despite the advent of potent antiretro viral therapy. The study is done to determin...
متن کاملEmpyema Thoracis
Epmyema thoracis is associated with high mortality ranging between 6% to 24%. The incidence of empyema is increasing in both children and adults; the cause of this surge is unknown. Most cases of empyema complicate community- or hospital-acquired pneumonia but a proportion results from iatrogenic causes or develops without pneumonia. Parapneumonic effusions (PPE) develop in about one half of th...
